Foggy Composition

Sometimes I take two compositions of the same photo and can’t quite decide which one strikes me most. At first glance they are the same, yet they can seem like very different settings. The first captures the feeling of being at the edge of the forest. While the second is overall simpler and colder while emphasizing the recurrence of the pine trees. Something draws me to the second one two. Maybe the isolation.

California Coastline

Gliding Toward Tahoe

Hiking up Round Top gives a variety of dramatic perspectives. This scene really gives a good perspective of the Lake Tahoe basin. Sometimes I envy a bird’s perspective.

Chicago Sun-Times

I paddled the Chicago River at night once and came to this point where the main branch, north branch, and south branch all meet. It left an especially grand impression as we had just paddled down the north branch which is relatively dark and river like. Then we turned a corner and sat upon the edge of the city. Being on the water at night, the city felt still – somewhat surreal.

The view was quite impressive so I decided to return for a photo shoot. I like how the Sun-Times building is reflected in 333 W. Wacker. The touch of blue light from the LaSalle-Wacker Building and the reflections of Wacker Drive itself on the river make for a fun night shot.

You really should experience it from the water some time.
